Why was I born in Texas again?

Or, more accurately, why the hell was my family in Texas long enough for me to be 3?

Texas politician proposes 100 percent game tax

Oh, but it gets better. His other proposed reforms:

$10,000 per abortion tax.

50% soda tax.

A 50% grease tax.

And, of course, because it's Texas...

A repeal on all Alcoholic Beverage laws.

Wow.

Just...

Wow.

The key thing to know about Texas (in this context, anyway) is that there is no personal income tax -- all the state money comes from sales tax, corporate taxes (which are relatively low) and the Severance Tax on each barrel of oil pumped out of the ground. You can guess the probability of getting the legislature to raise any of these taxes, so the alternative is to go after stuff like this. Consider it either (a) an attempt to get some press or (b) a slight variant on the usual "sin taxes" on tobacco and alcohol, but from a right-wing perspective. I'm surprised there's not a 25% tax on tofu and white wine as well.

As for >>why<< you were born in Texas -- well, your mom and I were there, and... that's probably all you want to know.
