Why Sports sometimes rocks...

San Jose Mayor's Office: Official Headquarters of the Edmonton Oilers

Okay, cliff-notes version: The mayors of San Jose and Edmonton, whose teams played each other in the NHL playoffs, made a friendly bet with each other that the Mayor of losing city would turn their office into the Official Fan Club for the winning team. The mayor would wear the jersey for the opening, redecorate their office and fly the flag of the winning team for the duration of the Stanely Cup Playoffs.

So, yes, if you drive by the San Jose Mayor's office right now you will see a Edmonton Oiler's flag flying proudly.

Same goes for Anaheim, apparantly.

In some senses, the game isn't what matters. It's the pride the cities take in the teams and the, for the most part, friendly rivalries that can spring up. Even with that nastiness about the canadian anthem, you've got a feeling that this isn't just gonna be a thing both sides just forget about.

Besides, it's fun!

Oh, and if you look at the left sidebar on the Edmonton Mayor's Website, you'll see an unusual option...

More fun than the usual trades of food items -- lobsters vs. steaks. But Edmonton vs. San Jose doesn't offer obvious choices like that -- elk sausage vs. wine, maybe?

Actually I really like the flag trading and jersey wearing. Much fun.
